UDSLIP; et objekt_LEAK; An Object
YEAR: 1995.
SOLO EXHIBITION: Max Mundus, Copenhagen, Denmark.
MATERIALS: White elastic, wood, white paint, and metal. A room – painted white – is divided by a white elastic band. The band consists of five juxtaposed elastics. The elastics are rolled onto two large spools. The spools have been mounted on opposing walls of the room.
LEAK; An Object deals with the sensuality and flexibility of the human body presented both as an object and through its many possibilities. Examples might be the visibility and non-visibility of the objects as well as their spatial dimensions. The object consists of elastics representing the body’s five senses. Gaze, taste, smell, hearing and touch. The elastic is mounted at eye-level, preventing visitors from seeing each other when they stand on opposite sides of the elastic. The room is all-white, obscuring the points where wall, floor and ceiling meet.
The room has a floating visual quality to it, dissolving up and down.
Anja Franke, 1995:
»The object takes possession of space, time and motion. The object dissolves interior and exterior. The object is disconnected from any specificity of space. The object can incorporate, penetrate, halve or double the space. The substance of the object is flexible and has the ability to alter its volume. The colours of the object are not colours but materials. The ideology, physiology and psychology of the object originate from the material divided.
The object executes illusions of immaculate transmission
while obstructing free communication. The object refers both to the bodily world and to its breakdown. The object exposes the subject to visual interruptions. The object seeks no opposites.
The object incorporates both the good and the bad.
Primarily the object implicates an obstruction of
the view of the beholder.«
