PROJEKTION_ PROJECTION

YEAR: 1993.

SOLO EXHIBITION: GL STRAND, Copenhagen, Denmark.

MATERIALS: Video: master Beta, video projection, showcase
of maple-wood and glass, freeze-dried apples, engravings, and
publication consisting of text and photo.

A video projector hangs suspended under the ceiling of a dark room. A projection on the back wall shows a picture of a woman dancing in a circle around the camera. The film has been edited to make her movements appear fast and slow by turn, as she moves back and forth. On the floor stands a showcase with nine glass shelves. Each shelf holds a freeze-dried apple, each in its own ageing process. Three engravings hang on the wall, transferred photographs featuring each their motif: a finger, an apple, and an ice cube hanging in a hairnet.

Projection is a psychological concept indicating the mental transfer of thought processes onto physical objects or images. Thus the objects and images are metaphors for the life processes and psychological mechanisms arising between people. For instance the exhibition shows how an apple, an ice cube, and a finger can be mentally transferred, turning into a woman’s body.
