ET MÅLTID_ A MEAL YEAR: 1995. SOLO EXHIBITION: OVERGADEN – Institut for Samtidskunst, Copenhagen, Denmark. MATERIALS: 1 tonne of Golden Delicious apples, photocopy, text describing organs, iron, wood, PVC, textiles, video, sound, monitor, VHS-player and camping table. 1 tonne of green apples lies in a pile on the floor of a large darkened room. In an adjoining room a wide shelf hangs on the wall. A white folder lies on the shelf. It contains descriptions of 24 organs in the female body. The back room is white and illuminated. In the white room there is a table with a starched tablecloth and wheels mounted on its legs as well as a dark iron monolith with a suction disc at each front corner. In the corner of the room there are four screens made from iron piping with wheels. Behind the screens a small black-andwhite monitor stands on a camping table. The monitor shows a close-up of a mouth eating something. The sound of chewing and munching is extra loud. Anja Franke, 1995: »My exhibition A MEAL focuses on the connections that arise between the individual and the divided mass of the collective body. The act of eating is an incorporation of external subjects – in this case also a cannibalistic identification. Eating and seeing are two different operations. Their union is not given, but rather created in this context through the execution of a meal. All these processes of division, consumption and redigestion hinge on a central theme in which the meal becomes autosacrificial.« BACK TO PROJECTS |
