24 MOTIVER; et manuskript_ 24 MOTIFS; A Manuscript
YEAR: 1998.
SOLO EXHIBITION: Mfkokm, Copenhagen, Denmark.
MATERIALS: Video: master Hi8, monitor. Black spots decorating the room, wooden table with wheels, and dialogue text for a manuscript.
The installation is made up of a small room whose walls are decorated by variously sized black spots. There is a table with a tall pile of manuscripts. The manuscript consists of 24 dialogues with 24 motifs. Motif no. 11 is a video showing on a monitor on the table in the room. The sound is original Indian folk music.
The black spots on the wall form the framework for the manuscript on the table. The manuscript is made up of 24 dialogues describing everyday events between Anja Franke and Kaj Aage Drafenharden in a fictitious universe. Both are moving around a city where their apartments and inner universes reflect in an interchange between feminine and masculine and between practical everyday life and the imaginary universe of the individual. Two people communicate at many levels both verbally and telepathically.
The black spots on the walls of the exhibition space illustrate the theory of black holes in the universe. The black holes and the manuscript dialogues are compared to each other, illustrating how everyday modes of communication vanish with the same implosion of energy that is assumed to exist in the black holes in the universe.
Each motif holds a reference to internal bodily organs.
Motif no. 11 is a video that I recorded without any subsequent editing. The foot on the video is my own. On the video-recording the speak plays from a tape-recorder simultaneously with Indian folk music.
